The Orange Foundation trustees: meet Jane Dew

Meet Jane, one of our dedicated trustees and a close friend of the late Emma Aindow-Gregory – the inspiration behind our charity’s beginnings. The Orange Foundation was established in Emma’s memory after she lived courageously with Stage 4 bowel cancer for four-and-a-half-years, and today her legacy continues through the work we do and the people we support.

Please introduce yourself!

I’m Jane Dew, and I’m honoured to be a trustee of The Orange Foundation. I’m originally from Crosby, near Liverpool, and we moved to Preston in 1988 and have lived in Broughton for the last 30 years. It was my friendship with Emma that has linked me to The Orange Foundation.

How did you meet Emma?

We met through our husbands when Emma brought Laurence – their middle son – to meet my horse, Harvey. Sadly, Laurence was not keen, but Emma rekindled her love for horses, just as I had done some years before. We soon became firm friends and it was a fabulous foursome: two horse-mad females, and two rugby-bonkers men!

We had some wonderful times. Even during the years after her diagnosis, Em still knew how to be the Queen of a good night.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I continue to be horse-mad, which is a daily passion. I also enjoy holidays and spending time with our family and two lovely granddaughters.

How is The Orange Foundation helping people?

Our charity is very new and it is exciting to think that we are going to be able to help people in a way that others can’t. We have already been able to assist 30 people who are living with cancer, with treatments or items that are not available on the NHS. Hopefully our help has been very beneficial. By fundraising for the Foundation or supporting our events, you can be part of the initiative to assist as many people as possible.

What is your role at The Orange Foundation?

My main role as a trustee is to plan and organise events. The events don’t always raise huge amounts of money, but they are spreading the word about The Orange Foundation so that more local people know about us and the services we can provide.

What are you looking forward to at the charity this year?

Hopefully this year we will repeat our quiz night and cheese and wine perhaps in a different area of Preston. Our Summer Charity event is already planned and we are about to have our first meeting to get the details finalised. If anybody would like to contact me regarding my role in The Orange Foundation, please contact me here.

You can make a difference.

Every single penny you donate is helping us to
support people living with cancer.
