Horse and dog show fundraising extravaganza

On 28 September 2024, Emma’s amazing friends organised The Orange Fun Showing Show: a horse and dog show extravaganza to raise funds for The Orange Foundation at Thompson House Equestrian Centre in Standish, Lancashire.

The event was held in Emma’s memory – a tribute to her absolute love for her horse, Henry, her many riding achievements, and the cherished friendships she grew through horseriding. Emma’s beloved horse, Henry, participated in the event, handled by Kim Sturgess. Henry helped Emma’s husband, Michael, judge the Orange Fancy Dress class.

Kelbie McDonald, one of the event’s organisers, said:

“It was a pleasure to be asked to help run The Orange Fun Show in memory of Emma. The day was busy and full of people who really seemed to enjoy themselves!

“The raffle was a big hit, and we can’t thank our raffle prize donors enough.

“The weather took a turn in the afternoon, which made the fancy dress class a bit of a damp one, but it didn’t dampen people’s spirits. We were so glad Henry, Emma’s horse, could be there to help Michael present the awards.”

Michael Gregory, Emma’s husband and founder of the The Orange Foundation, said:

“A fantastic day and turn-out by all the participants. The competitors had put so much energy and effort into making sure this was a great event and I’m hugely grateful that people taking part.

“The army of volunteers were getting a lot of great feedback with people asking when the next event will be! Big thanks to all the sponsors of the event and for the organising team who made it a great event.”

There were so many people, businesses and sponsors who made the day a fun and memorable one. From people raffles, games, horse and dog showing classes, fancy dress competition, refreshments and fun, the day was an all-round fabulous event raising much-needed funds to support people who are living with cancer.

The total raised from the event was £2684, which will go towards delivering one of the following:

  • 14 counselling sessions;
  • A real-hair wig or other cosmetic treatment;
  • access a patient advocacy service that ensures better delivery of treatment; or
  • two diagnostic procedures that will help expedite treatment plans.
