Janice regains confidence after breast cancer

A woman who underwent breast cancer surgery more than a decade ago has been given a renewed sense of confidence thanks to a specialist restorative tattoo procedure.

Janice, who previously underwent surgery as part of her treatment for breast cancer, had been living with visible scarring and dimpling around her breast for several years. Although she had considered addressing the issue sooner, she felt she needed time away from medical appointments and treatment-related procedures after her cancer journey.

Now, 11 years later, she has taken an important step forward with the help of Preston-based tattoo artist Meera Panchal, who specialises in restorative and cosmetic tattoo work.

The Orange Foundation funded the procedure after being approached by Meera, who explained how a decorative tattoo design could help cover surgical scarring and restore Janice’s confidence. Janice underwent the treatment in August and the results have been transformational.

The procedure forms part of The Orange Foundation’s commitment to supporting individuals who have experienced physical side effects of cancer treatment. Janice said: “I love the tattoo. I don’t see the scarring anymore and now I don’t see the difference I once did. I’m beyond happy with it and have shared on social media that is anyone else is struggling to come forward for help of this kind.”

Meera Panchal said: “Many people don’t realise the impact that visible scarring can have on someone’s confidence. This type of work isn’t just a tattoo; it’s part of a healing journey.

“Janice and I are thankful that the Orange Foundation recognises the value of these treatments and making them accessible to people who may not otherwise be able to afford them.”

By supporting innovative services such as restorative tattooing, the charity hopes to raise awareness of the emotional and psychological recovery that often continues long after cancer treatment has ended.
