CancerHelp (Preston) Ltd will use Physiopod to treat scarring and peripheral neuropathy
Local charity CancerHelp (Preston) Ltd has a new way of supporting patients dealing with the side effects of cancer treatment after investing in a Deep Oscillation tool, funded by The Orange Foundation.
Known as a Physiopod, it will be used by the CancerHelp Team at their Vine House Cancer Support Centre in Ribbleton. It will initially be used to help manage scarring and peripheral neuropathy (damage to the nerves in the body), which is something experienced by many patients as a result of cancer treatment.
The equipment will be a welcome addition to CancerHelp’s services, which offers support in a community setting and helps people better self-manage the side effects of cancer treatment. The device provides a non-invasive therapy that creates gentle, deep vibrations in tissues to reduce inflammation, decrease swelling and speed up wound healing.
Jeanette Smalley, General Manager at CancerHelp (Preston) Ltd, said: “We are really grateful to The Orange Foundation for providing this equipment. It will make a positive difference to patients who can manage the side effects of cancer treatment themselves and improve a number of other conditions as well roll out the service.
“We work closely with local NHS cancer teams and anything we can do to help release pressures on NHS services can only be a good thing, especially for some conditions requiring ongoing maintenance. We hope by having access to this equipment in the community, we can help patients explore this treatment as an option away from the NHS.”
The Orange Foundation, which was established in memory of Emma Aindow-Gregory, aims to provide practical support to people living with cancer and provided £3,498.00 to fund the equipment.
Orange Foundation Trustee Stephen Gregson said: “This device has the potential to help many local people. Placing this Physiopod in the heart of community led services can empower and equip patients with the means to take back some control and foster greater independence.
“We have an ongoing relationship with CancerHelp and have already provided over £5,000.00 in funding to support nine people access much needed talking therapies. We’re proud to support the work it delivers.”
